LORETTA MARTIN
MISS GAY MISSOURI AMERICA 1996
BIO:
Growing up in a religiously fundamentalist home, singing was part of everyday life for J. L. Hill. At 10 years old, he began leading songs before his small church congregation, being groomed to become a preacher. In his teen years, he starred in high school musicals and sang lead in "garage bands." into adulthood, he sang Country and Gospel music with "The Hills," doing comic impressions of Loretta Lynn and Willie Nelson. Ironically, it was a Loretta Lynn impersonation that led to the birth of "Miss Loretta" on Halloween night of 1994. Almost a year and a half later, he placed first alternate to Miss Kansas City Gay Pride, and won his first title, "Miss Moonshadow." Later that year, Loretta won Miss Gay Missouri 1996. Loretta was the first MGMA to ever win her first time entering with such "live" extraordinary talent. Loretta has enjoyed a diverse professional career as a former singer with a former real girl Miss Missouri America, a manufacturing and import account rep, appearing in HSN as an account rep. She resides in Olathe, KS with her partner, Dave, operating her own decorating and landscape business in addition to working as a landscape technician on the Sprint Worldwide Headquarters campus. Loretta is proud to be a Kansas City participant in the art form of female impersonation with the live singing “Girlie Show” at Californo’s and as a cast member of Missie B’s. Loretta Martin has this advice to share with other artists: "Let’s bring honor to the art form, stay focused on what is real, and work hard to improve, but most importantly, let’s not destroy ourselves or others in the process."
