Happy New Year Everyone, I hope everyone is staying warm during what has been a season lacking cold fronts! While we are knee deep climbing our way out of holiday cheer I wanted to take a moment to tell you about our recent preliminary and highlight the preliminaries that we have yet to come. Miss Gay Springfield took place on November 7th, and to truly capture the legacy held behind this prestigious title we also had a review show the evening before. I travelled to Springfield on Friday afternoon where I was surprised to find a welcome basket in my room that was put together by the promoters, Autumn Holiday and Vince Edwards. Such a lovely treat! After unpacking and getting everything neatly organized for the 2 day event, I took a trip with some Kansas City peeps that were also there for the event to the local shopping area. What’s a trip to another city without a quick exploration of the local Ulta Beauty, Shoe Carnival, and Target?! To our surprise, the stores have the EXACT same things we had in Kansas City… Whodathunk?! That evening was a hoot performing with Autumn Holiday and all the formers. Sharing the backstage environment is always an experience when you don’t know what all personalities will be joining you during the show. A word to the wise: if it looks like a can of hair spray, smells like a can of hair spray, and SPRAYS like a can of hair spray… DOUBLE CHECK it! It could wind up being spray adhesive that leads to your own demise. J It was a blast performing with these individuals, and that one wig will never be the same. The next day began with Registration where we had 4 individuals show up in an attempt to capture the title of Miss Gay Springfield. It was inspiring to sit in on the Male Interviews of these 4 gentlemen as they all had something unique and different to offer to the title, and they did a tremendous job of showcasing their brand to the judges. But at the end of the night there could only be one, and Karma T. Cassidy was victorious in capturing the title with Priscilla placing as her first alternate. Congratulations to both of these entertainers, as they are now qualified to compete at the state competition in April which is swiftly approaching. This brings us to an even 10 contestants already qualified to compete at this year’s state competition, which will be held in Kansas City on April 7th, 8th, and 9th at the Arts Asylum. There are 8 more tickets to claim with 4 more preliminaries quickly on our radar: Saturday, January 16th – Miss Gay Heart of Missouri Theme – Do Ask Do Tell; honoring the reigning Destiny Michelle Location – Columbia, MO at Yin Yang Nightclub Promoted by Amanda Lay Saturday, February 6th – Miss Gay Kansas City, Missouri Theme – TBD; honoring the reigning Moltyn Decadence Location – Kansas City, MO, at Missie B’s Promoted by Jeff Hickman (L’oreal) and Sam Vermillion (Valari Knyte) Saturday, March 5th – Miss Gay Northwest, Missouri Theme – Grace and Glamour; honoring the reigning L’oreal Location – Saint Joseph, MO, venue TBD Promoted by Dustin Mathews and Patrick Hall Saturday, March 12th – Miss Spirit of Saint Louis, Missouri Theme – A Night in Olympus - Goddesses; honoring the reigning Ciera St. James Monet Location – Saint Louis, MO, at The Grey Fox Promoted by Orlando Burton I hope everyone stayed safe during their travels and took some extra time to capture those special moments with your loved ones!
