Happy February Everyone, We are drawing closer and closer to the big dance in April, and with that I hope all of your preparations are in full swing! As we near the big event and tip-toe nearer to crowning my successor, my schedule is getting busier and busier… no time like the present to be hip pad deep in preparations! January contained another preliminary, this time in Columbia Missouri. For this trip I brought down my main man, James Dean, and one of our already qualified contestants, Priscilla. About halfway through the trip from Kansas City (while headed straight to Registration at Yin Yang Nightclub), James Dean had decided to leave me sitting in a pool of warm, fresh dog urine. And you know what they say, regardless of being onstage or behind the scenes, with every candid moment… the show must go on! BUT not ‘til AFTER a trip to the local Target for a new pair of pants and underwear! Miss Heart of Missouri promoted by Amanda Lay brought out 2 contestants, D’Rihanna Weatherbey and Musica Malone. Amanda established a very well rounded panel of judges to give the best critiques possible to her contestants: Atheena Voce (MGMA 2004), Christa Collins(MGMA 2013), and Patrick Hall (one of the promoters for Miss Gay Northwest). Both gentleman brought their A-game and showcased seamless packages throughout the weekend, which resulted in a one point separation leading to the crowning of D’Rihanna. Congratulations to both contestants for entertaining and showcasing strong packages that I’m sure will blossom into something spectacular at the state level. Witnessing these 2 contestants during their critique session and observing the already turning wheels to the feedback they were receiving was wonderful. That evening after the pageant, I had the privilege of sticking around to enjoy a booking in the weekly Saturday show at Yin Yang Nightclub with a cast that included my MGM sister Atheena, the comedic and witty Muffie Beaverhousen, the dancing diva Jennicka Fierce, and the newly crowned Miss Heart of Missouri D’Rihanna Weatherbey. To say that the audience in Columbia is captivated by the art form is an understatement… they truly come out to be part of a show and the love felt throughout the club was astounding. Being part of such a well-rounded group of entertainers led to so much fun and excitement!
During the month of January, I also had the honor of collaborating with the ever-so talented Andy Chambers and his new partner in crime and photography Shane Linden. The creative product that these two partner up to produce is absolutely incredible! I cannot wait to show everyone what we have come up with to illustrate the already chosen theme for MGMA 2016, Memoir of a Geisha. My mind is absolutely blown and my passion for this theme completely rejuvenated! As we edge closer to April, I want all of you to be very mindful of what you are producing and exhibiting this year, both on and off the stage. I believe this year is really going to come down to consistency, and that means feeling strongly about just one or two categories is not going to do the trick this year. Pageantry is the name, and consistency is the game! It took me 5 years to capture this prestigious title, and it all comes back to years of working on what I was producing and ensuring that the quality was there across all 5 categories. Dust off those critique sheets, meticulously review each of your looks, study up on our rules, and place yourself on the flip side of the coin as a judge. Multiple contestants have reached out to me this year, and I constantly find myself asking, “What would you think of that if you were a judge?” If it requires an explanation, keep in mind that you will not be given an opportunity to explain yourself until the scores have already been assigned. All of you have very clear visions, and STAY TRUE to those visions, but tweak what is necessary to ensure you are confidently providing something vivid and concise. And lastly, if you are not yet qualified, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! Listed below are our last 3 preliminaries as well as a “save the date” reminder for a Miss Gay Missouri, America benefit that we have scheduled in Kansas City: Saturday, February 6th – Miss Gay Kansas City, Missouri Theme – Mardi Gras; honoring the reigning Moltyn Decadence Location – Kansas City, MO, at Missie B’s Promoted by Jeff Hickman (L’oreal) and Sam Vermillion (Valari Knyte) Friday February 26th – Miss Gay Missouri Review Show Sidekicks Saloon at 10PM Saturday, March 5th – Miss Gay Northwest, Missouri Theme – Grace and Glamour; honoring the reigning L’oreal Location – Saint Joseph, MO, venue TBD Promoted by Dustin Mathews and Patrick Hall Saturday, March 12th – Miss Spirit of Saint Louis, Missouri Theme – A Night in Olympus - Goddesses; honoring the reigning Ciera St. James Monet Location – Saint Louis, MO, at The Grey Fox Promoted by Orlando Burton Thank you all for what has continued to be a fantastic reign! Forever Yours, Kyla Breeze, MGMA 2015 FROM THE ALUMNI: Hello family, friends and supporters of MGMA, The first month of 2016 is over and it seems that this year is off and running. It is said that as one gets older time seems to fly by and I’m beginning to believe that. With every New Year we always make resolutions of what we want to accomplish. Lose weight, pay off bills, go out more/go out less, stop wasting money, and get more rest are just a few of things we want to do. As we all look back on 2015, the year that is forever gone, we must ask ourselves “did I leave the legacy that I intended to leave on the world and others. Most of us, including myself, can honestly say, “No I didn’t”. There are things that we would change if we could, but the past is the past and 2015 is forever behind us. With 2016 staring us in the face we all have the opportunity before us to make this year the best and take full advantage of the qualities we all have with-in ourselves. So without sounding preachy take a moment to read and then think about how you, me, all of us can benefit from becoming the person, community, world, we are truly meant to be “I decided, very early on, just to accept life unconditionally; I never expected it to do anything special for me, yet I seemed to accomplish far more than I had ever hoped. Most of the time it just happened to me without my ever seeking it.” ~ Audrey Hepburn If you ask me, there are certain qualities each and every human being should have. Qualities that have the power to help each and every one of us to connect with our own selves and the world around us at a deeper level. Crafting better lives for ourselves and those around us and making the world a happier and a lot brighter place to be in. Qualities that can help all of us achieve our goals in life. And these qualities are: 1. Faith Faith in yourself and all that you are. Faith in your abilities. Faith in life and faith in the Infinite intelligence that created us all. “He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” ~ Matthew 17:20 2. Courage Courage to create the life you deep down inside know that you deserve to live. Courage to go where most people don’t dare to go. Courage to be the person you were born to be. “Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can’t practice any other virtue consistently. You can practice any virtue erratically, but nothing consistently without courage.” ~ Maya Angelou 3. Love Love for yourself. Love for your friends. Love for your family. Love for your work. Love for your pets. Love for your planet and love for your life. Love for those who love you, and love for those who don’t. “The heart that loves is forever young.” ~ Greek proverb 4. Deep Sense of Connection A feeling of belonging and a deep sense of connection to all things, all people and all places. Recognizing yourself in everything and everyone. Understanding the Oneness of all things. “If I go into the place in myself that is love, and you go into the place in yourself that is love, we are together in love. Then you and I are truly in love, the state of being love. That’s the entrance to Oneness.” ~ Ram Dass 5. Imagination The ability to inspire and feel inspired. The capacity to use your mind to create new worlds and discover new realms. To go where no one has ever gone before and craft things that nobody has ever crafted before. “Logic will get you from A to Z; imagination will get you everywhere.” ~ Albert Einstein 6. Denial of all fearful things The ability to deny all things that originate from fear. To ignore, reject and show complete indifference towards those things that cause you to feel separate from your fellow human being, separate from the world around you, separate from the things you dream and desire, and separate from God itself. “You have but two emotions, fear and love, one you made and one was given you.” ~ A Course In Miracles 7. Thankfulness And attitude of gratitude. Praising and giving thanks for the things that are and for the things that aren’t. For the things you already have, for the life you are now living and for the many blessings life sent and will continue to send your way. And always say THANK YOU to those that do for you. “What if you gave someone a gift, and they neglected to thank you for it – would you be likely to give them another? Life is the same way. In order to attract more of the blessings that life has to offer, you must truly appreciate what you already have.” ~ Ralph Marston 8. Open-mindedness A clean and open mind that welcomes everything and everyone. Without the need to judge, label and condemn the things, people and experiences that are not aligned with who you are, with what you stand for and with what you yourself believe in. “We need to give each other the space to grow, to be ourselves, to exercise our diversity. We need to give each other space so that we may both give and receive such beautiful things as ideas, openness, dignity, joy, healing, and inclusion.” ~ Max de Pree 9. Trust Trust in the power and wisdom of life. Trust that you are never given more than you can handle. Trust in yourself, trust in your inner power and wisdom and trust in your ability to manifest the things you want to manifest. “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me’.” Erma Bombeck 10. Detachment The strength to let go of all things that no longer serve you. All places and all people that no longer need or want to be in your life. The ability to let go of your attachment to limitations, fears, doubts and insecurities. Taking your focus away from who you now are and placing it on to who you want to become. The strength to let the old you “die”, to let the old you go, so that the new you can be born. “Until man lets go of that which he is now conscious of being, he will not become that which he desires to be.” ~ Neville Goddard, Your Faith is Your Fortune And by simply embracing these 10 qualities your whole life will improve and you will discover yourself to be a greater person by far more than you ever dreamed yourself to be. What do you say? Do you think you can embrace these qualities and make them part of your everyday life? I say “YES” that you, we, I, everyone can.
